Description [Suggest Change]
Squaw Rock lies within the Chagrin Reservation, part of the Cleveland Metro Parks. The gorge is a welcome escape from surrounding urban life of Chagrin Falls and Solon. It contains a shaded river drainage lined with small sandstone cliffs up to 35ft. There are a ton of beautiful evergreens lining the gorge. It's really nice to go on a hike and explore either side of the gorge. Winter sometimes brings some OK waterfalls to climb/boulder; conditions have to be perfect though. In the summer a small amount of bouldering can be found. Climbing exists on either side of the gorge, and up a side drainage. This area is worth a trip if you live within a reasonable distance, otherwise go to the rock gym if you want a pump. Keep in mind that you need consistent cold weather to produce good ice here!
Getting There [Suggest Change]
From Cleveland, take I-90 east to 271 south. Follow 271 south to 422 east. Get off at the Rt 91-Solon exit. Take a right (south) off the exit onto 91 & take an immediate left (east) onto Solon Rd. Follow Solon Rd. for a few miles until you cross a bridge going over the Chagrin River. Take an immediate left at the very end of the bridge into a Metro Parks parking area. This parking area is one of two ways to access the climbing. The other access is via the "Squaw Rock" parking lot proper on the opposite side of the gorge. See clemetparks.com for directions.
