Palisades

Colorado > Alpine Rock > RMNP - Rock > Long's Peak
Warning Access Issue: Closures DetailsDrop down

Description

This is a gorgeous section of Long's Peak which, due to its lengthy approach, attracts relatively few visitors. The vertical rock rises above and to the right of Keplinger's Couloir.

Routes here include Autumn Sonata, 5.10c; Slumgullion, 5.11d; Earth, Wind, and Fire, 5.10d; Beat the Heat, 5.10d; Great Chimney, 5.6; Cold Turkey Waltz, 5.10. There is room for development here.

The descent is probably best to go down the ridge to the Loft to Clark's Arrow or rappel into the Notch (top of Notch Couloir).

Getting There

Most probably approach from the Long's Area trailhead on the east side of the peak, off CO Hwy 7. From this side, you would approach via the Loft & Clark's Arrow. This arrow is hard to find. For the aerobically fit, you could approach from the Wild Basin entrance to RMNP and hike up Keplinger's Couloir...but one might question your genetics or call you mutant.

[Hide Comment] Where can you find pictures and descriptions of the routes here? I'm guessing the 11 is that longest offwidth that my eye is drawn to when looking at the Palisades from afar or in the picture with the 5 star rating (middle left). Thanks for the pictures, you guys! Sep 16, 2020
