09. The Brig

Wisconsin > Central > Necedah (Petenwell Rock)

Description

The Brig is a small area located down below the main spine on the east side of the the ridge. The trees offer shade in the morning, and the rolling of the sun offers shade in the afternoon. It's a small wall, but has several good 5.10- lines close together so it makes for a perfect warm up sector if the usual lines are taken. It can become a refuge on crowded days.

Getting There

The Brig is located directly "Bernd Armold" and "Pancake Crack". Look for a trail leading downhill in the vicinity of "Aswan" or "Riverboat" that takes you down and over a few fallen trees to the base of the routes.

Thanks so much for developing this are and posting it here. Only had time to get on one route at The Brig this weekend (Slippery Slope), but all three lines look really good. Oct 1, 2006
[Hide Comment] These routes are nice short warm-ups, if they were on the beaten path they would get lots of traffic. Nov 19, 2011

[Hide Comment] I agree with Nick. These things are fun and would see more traffic if they were nearer to the rest of the rock, but really they're not that far and worth the 5 minute walk. They were pretty dirty today, which added some spice. We did what we could to clean them all up, but a little traffic would keep these things in pristine condition. Check them out the next time you're at Necedah. May 24, 2014

[Hide Comment] If there is any interest in replacing any or all the hardware here with glue-in bolts I'd be in strong support of such efforts. Sep 25, 2017

[Hide Comment] JJ, I checked out these bolts this past spring and didn't see the need at this time to replace them IMHO. It looks like you used all SS gear (no visible rust)and that they are only ~10 years old. There are other routes on the list at Necedah to be replaced first. But, Thank you for the public permission for hardware replacement of your routes so when the time comes, the work will get done. Sep 25, 2017
