T-Rex Boulders

Wyoming > Rock Springs

Description

If it's hot outside it'll be hot at these rocks, but there are no issues with the area and it is only a little jaunt from Rock Springs (5.3 miles). The rocks are hard to miss if you know what you are looking for and the quality is great.

Getting There

Stop at Cruel Jack's on I-80 and take 191 south for 5.3 miles. Find a little two-track meandering toward the right and you will see the boulders.

Here is a little overview photo of the place. The crag is not blatantly apparent from the highway so hopefully this helps a bit. The "triangle boulder" is the far right and has a couple of very fun warm up problems. These can be linked in a multitude of ways to create good warm ups or challenging eliminates. In the center is a highball problem. I am sorry but I am not the right person to commit on the names and grades. For anyone that is interested please contact me directly and I will dig up some more information on the area.

[Hide Comment] The directions say 5.3 miles down 191S but my odometer from cruel jacks actually said 6.1. Great bouldering on good rock. When you leave the highway it will sweep around to the right. You can literally park right in front of the boulders. Nov 21, 2018

[Hide Comment] A fun little spot for a few hours. Mostly easier climbs, but there are some difficult ones too. There are many variations that have been done on each boulder/cave, but I'm not sure how well these have been recorded/shared. Mostly okay stone, if on the fragile side. The surrounding areas have some rock of comparable quality, but this area seems to be the most well concentrated. There are a few more outcroppings a few miles down the highway, around some of the corners which look promising. Watch for snakes in warm months, I would be hesitant to bring an unsupervised dog out here. Oct 24, 2023
