Description
The Turtle Lake area is host to a variety of climbing from bouldering to sport to trad. The rock is all sandstone of varying quality. It is most commonly known for its convenient Bouldering, as it is close to town and right off the road. There are problems of varying difficulties and styles and this is a nice spot for climbers of all abilities. In contrast, the Turtle Lake Cliffs, are far less traveled. They are located right above the boulders and contain a selection of routes from face to crack, and bolted to gear.
Getting There
From Durango, drive west on 25th Street (Junction Creek Road) for about 3 miles. When the road comes to a 3-way stop, go right (CR 205) and continue for just over a mile and park at a series of pullouts on the right (south) side of the road near the Roadside Boulder.
