Description

Grandeur Peak is the most prominent peak between Mount Olympus and Parley's Canyon. While driving east on 3300 South, limestone outcrops can be seen winding up the ridge. The Quarry is raw quartzite that hasn't seen much traffic. The lowest limestone outcrop above the Quarry is the Reef. Rocket Reef is the lowest section of the continuous, winding limestone ridge. All areas are north facing and quiet. If seclusion is your thing, you'll find it here.

Getting There

Take I-215 to 3300 South. Drive north on Wasatch Blvd to Warr Rd. Turn east and then north onto Cascade Way. There is a gate at the end of the asphalt. Please be respectful of homeowners when parking. Hike up the dirt road on the other side of the gate. The road turns and climbs to the east, then levels out and turns to the south. It takes about 10 minutes to get to the fork in the switchback that leads to the climbing.

There are no parking signs posted on the gate at the end of Cascade. Last week we parked on the street away from any drives, but we still came back to our car to find a nice little warning note left by a resident...

Take this as you will. Jun 27, 2006
Hi,
Kris Pietryga and I (James Garrett) climbed the longish route way up there on the upper reef. It is a good ways from the Lower Reef and we called the route ANGRY WHITE MALE, I, 5.10+ and it does have some looseness, but it was a good route. A long walk though. Let me know if this is the same place you are climbing? It is the highest piece of rock on that ridge. I am definitely curious as to where Reef Rocket is! Jun 9, 2006
