Description
The Prairie walls offer wonderful climbing any time there isn't snow around. The wall is east-facing, which means early sunlight on cool mornings and evening shade for warmer days. Many Cracks Buttress through the Sunday Buttress are the most popular areas of the park, but have ample room for a large number of climbers to congregate and climb. Access is easy as well, making it simple for people of all levels of fitness and their furry companions to join the climbers at the face.
A large portion of the Prairie Walls (from about Midnight Buttress and on North) has limited shade, so plan accordingly on hot summer days.

Getting There
From the highway, turn East onto 141st St. and follow the road for ~1.2 miles. On the left will be a turnoff into a small parking lot (across from a modest house with some cattle often grazing in the front.) There are two ways to get to the Prairie Walls from the parking lot.
- Follow the cement path for about .75 miles (at about .25 miles there is a latrine for any last-minute needs.) After passing the treeline on the left there is an obvious path cut in the grass that leads up to Jasper's Dihedral (5. Saturday Buttress.) while the immediate area is well-groomed, some bushwhacking North or South may be required to gain access to some parts of the Prairie Walls.
- Take the obvious path cut in the grass towards the quarry. Right before you enter the quarry, cut right into the woods. This is the "scenic" path that will take you by all of the wonderful climbing areas in the forest, such as Kanaranzi. This is the path less taken, so some minor bushwhacking may be required. Also note that this route is inadvisable in the summer due to swarms of hungry bugs.
