Trail Side Wall aka Plain View Ridge

Colorado > Boulder > Flagstaff

Description

The Trail Side Wall, as I call it, is located east of the road below Cloud Shadow. You can make the traverse as long as you want, but its more difficult uphill. There are several variations to the traverse as well as numerous problems that go straight up on solid rock. Located on the west side of the wall, this area is shaded by ponderosa and is just overhanging enough that it doesn't get snowed on. The landings, which are on the trail, are decent; bring a pad, and watch out for steps and roots. The lower half has better problems and flatter landings.

Getting There

Just after Cookie Jar Rock, park on the right side below Cloud Shadow where the trail crosses the road. You can also park at Capstan Rock and walk downhill past Cloud Shadow.

[Hide Comment] This is a great little known spot to get away from the crowds and play around on an excellent little wall. The rock is good, the moves challenging and scenery spectacular! Enjoy

[Hide Comment] AKA Plain View Ridge. This ridge has a bunch of easy but great climbs. Good place to take beginners. Nov 7, 2011

[Hide Comment] Are the directions to this area wrong? It says downhill from Cloud Shadow, but I believe it is downhill from the Monkey Traverse toward Gregory Canyon. Apr 24, 2012

[Hide Comment] Park where the directions say, cross the road, and walk downhill 3 minutes towards the Hobo Cave. Can't miss it. Take some beginners, and do all the variations, Adam. Full beta: flagstaffmountainbouldering… Apr 26, 2012

[Hide Comment] Thanks, Chip! Would you mind looking at the google map link at the top of the page and seeing if that is wrong then? The map link shows the boulders at a different area than you are saying. Thanks again for the help! Apr 26, 2012

[Hide Comment] Yes, the map is jacked. Cross the street at the green arrow (on the current google map) and head east and then slightly south. 2-3 minutes from the car, tops. Apr 27, 2012
