Elephant Rock

Colorado > Buena Vista

Description

This is a very distinctive HUGE boulder just off the road. The granite rock is similar to a mixture of Joshua Tree and Vedavoo. The freestanding formation is host to several crack and face routes. Most of the routes are in the 5.10-5.11 range although there is a nice moderate route up the South side and a couple ridiculously hard routes up the East side.

Getting There

In the middle of Buena Vista, turn East off US Highway 24 onto Main Street. Go a couple of blocks and turn North onto N. Colorado Street (Chaffee County Rd. 371). After approximately 3.1 miles from Main Street and after the tunnels, you will see Bob's Rock on the East side of the road and Elephant Rock on the West side.

[Hide Comment] This formation/tower has only one set of rap/toprope anchors, and they are directly above the southern corner route. So toproping the harder lines on the north and east sides is impossible. Sep 15, 2011

[Hide Comment] Try the undercling traverse on the left side of the east face. Great exercise! Mar 20, 2016
