Description
Hairpin Rock is a fin of rock and is due east of the Left Hand Wall on the right side of the canyon and is obvious by its overhanging southwest face. The Orchasm is the upper area where the Hairpin and Right Hand wall and are twenty feet apart and form parallel sided chasm. Since all of the old hardware has been upgraded by CASA volunteers, and some new sport routes added, you can get a day in doing nice 5.10s and 5.11s of both trad and sport variety. The easiest approach is to hike past both the Right Hand Wall and Hairpin Rock staying in the wash as as if you were going to Pinhead. When you are right below Musicians Wall, well before the wash turns right, look for cairns marking the trail to Musician's Wall. When you reach the Musicians, contour right to the notch between Hairpin and Right Hand Wall. Climb through a small chimney to reach the majority of the climbs. Stay on the face to the right rather than starting in the chimney. The packs can be handed up to the first person to do the 4th class face/chimney.
If you try straight up the gully on the right side of the Hairpin you'll need to do some class IV scrambling.
