Description

Green Slabs (South Face) is a great destination for moderate trad lines. Routes range in difficulty from 5.6 to 5.12 with the majority in the 5.7 to 5.10 range. The crag sees some traffic but is rarely crowded. It is minutes from the road and partially shaded by trees. Most, but not all, routes have chain anchors.

Green Slabs (South Face) resides at a comparatively low elevation and faces south, making it a good choice for cool days. The crag sees morning shade but is otherwise sunny.

Getting There

Park at the mile marker 9.9 pullout on the east (summit bound) side of the road. The pullout is immediately before pronounced road cuts on both sides of the highway. The Green Slabs Area is the formation to the east which touches the road.

Take a well defined trail from the pullout. The trail leads uphill and towards the northeast. The approach takes less than 5 minutes and leads to the base of Monkey Business.

The parking area for Green Slabs is not at the 10.2 mile point (as 'Squeezing the Lemmon' describes). In fact, you actually want to park right BEFORE the 10 mile marker in a large pull-out where the road crosses through two rock formations. The trail can easily be spotted from the pull-out and in five minutes the trail will lead you directly to the base of Monkey Business (5.7). Cool crag. Mar 19, 2006

The back side of Green Slabs is being called Green Acres. The only green thing back there is the leaves of trees. The wall is dominated by a neat looking yellow dihedral above a big ledge. Jun 2, 2006

If anyone has found a blue size zero DMM 3 cam unit and phantom carabiner on Rock Candy as of 12/5/10...I lost one out there today and was hoping that one of you guys who were out there might have found it? After all, I finally got your TR set up to run smoothly on the second attempt on David and Goliath... Cheers, Alex Dec 6, 2010
