The Joshua Tree National Park Superintendent's Compendium states that:
1. Vegetation is not allowed to be used as an anchor.
2. Only neutral or rock colored bolt hangers are allowed.

Description

Hunk Rock is a squat looking formation sitting atop a small hill overlooking the Barker Dam parking lot. It is also just west of Dissolution Rock and is highly visible on the drive to the Wonderland parking area near Uncle Willie's.

Despite it's size it has few classics, although there are some routes worth doing. Some of the routes to check out include the following - Hunkloads to Hermosa (5.9), Death of a Decade (5.10a), Soft Cell (5.10d) and Breath of Death (5.11a).

Getting There

Drive the road towards Barker Dam and park in the giant car corral. Look for the rock and go -a short walk will take one to the base. Also easily reached from the Wonderland parking near Uncle Willie's.
