A little more than 5' long along the base of the crag. Pretty sure it's a bull snake.

[Hide Comment] Where do you approach from for Petrified Hornet Wall? Mar 23, 2012

[Hide Comment] Approach from the same parking area as Optimator, head up the obvious wash that's down and left of the road, and then you should see another wash/trail heading up and left. There were cairns for at least the upper half. Mar 23, 2012
[Hide Comment] i usually approach from a small pulloff (i think there are 2 of them) several hundred yards before the optimator parking. this allows you to get down to the wash pretty quickly (and avoid climbing back up to the optimator parking at the end of the day).

once you get in the wash, head up-stream until you find a decent break on the left. follow it up onto the most obvious ridge. there is usually a faint trail on the ridge.

have fun, cool little crag! Mar 23, 2012

[Hide Comment] And note that the picture of the crag with the routes numbered in the Bloom guidebook is completely wrong. Crescent Crack and Petrified Hornet are about 100 feet apart and right where the trail hits the wall. Oct 11, 2013

[Hide Comment] Small, nice shady wall but not recommended for groups or small kids as there is some erosion along the wall, and several routes require scrambles over loose rock to their base. May 19, 2021
