Access Issue: RAIN, WET ROCK and RAPTOR CLOSURES: The sandstone around Moab is fragile and is very easily damaged when it is wet. Also please ask and be aware of Raptor Closures in areas such as CAT WALL and RESERVOIR WALL in Indian Creek
Details
WET ROCK: Holds rip off and climbs have been and will continue to be permanently damaged due to climbers not respecting this phenomenon. After a heavy storm the rock will remain wet, sometimes for several days. PLEASE DO NOT CLIMB IN MOAB during or after rain.
RAPTOR CLOSURES: please be aware of seasonal raptor closures. They occur annually in the spring.
Description
The Happy Turk Hoodoo is a crazy looking, 40-or-so-foot-high tower of Cutler sandstone. It is also called the Devil's Golfball, because the base of the tower looks like a red golf tee, while the capstone is a whitish orb looking somewhat like a golfball.
Getting There
From the cattleguard, drive 5.7 miles (2.1 miles past the Ice Cream Parlor. Just off the road on your right will be the tower Pensive Putterman, composed of Cutler, and several hundred feet to the left will be the Happy Turk. Follow the maze of dirt roads to park at the base of the tower, or hoof it in for the 2 minute hike.
