This is the main approach trail for E Cochise Stronghold. It is a difficult trail to routefind, with sections of blank slab where one must re-discover the path. Many of the stone cairns marking these blank sections have been knocked over.

The trailhead starts where W Ironwood Road makes a circle around a massive boulder, and is marked by a sign a few feet into the trial. It goes up, staying slightly to the left of the wash between Rockfellow and Waterfell dome. Midway, there is a blank section of steep 3rd class slab where a fall would have high consequence. Beyond this section, as you close in on Waterfell dome, the trail begins to merge with the wash, and becomes white polished stone; stay to the left and on redder stone for better traction. The trail eventually flattens and you walk on the wash itself. From the last segment of this trial, several smaller and ill-defined footpaths lead to the various climbs on Rockfellow dome.
