Park at Long Canyon Trailhead. Hike 2.8 miles up Long Canyon Trail until the trail makes a sharp right-hand turn at a minor red-bottomed wash. Leave the main trail here, turning left to walk up this wash for about 200 yards, looking for a faint yet well-marked path leading up and left into the forest. Carefully follow this cairned path uphill through the manzanita brush. There is a fixed rope to help you through one of the upper cliffbands. The final cliffbands are negotiated by long "end run" traverses. Total: 2 to 2½ hours.
