From the Horton Ridge Trailhead pick up a trail trending east. Follow it uphill until you reach 7,100' elevation and you are in a little saddle before reaching the summit of Mount Roothan. Turn to the north and follow climbers trails to a seasonal creek bottom at elevation 6,650'. (Last chance for water). Cross the snowmelt stream and then stay high and to the right and you'll reach Chimney rock in 20-30 minutes. You'll be walking on a ledge system and some of them are better than others for a safe and more direct route. You'll notice we did a little back tracking trying to find a ledge that punched through. Avoid getting pulled left down into the talus field which creates more of a drop than is necessary.
