Lots of scrambling near the East Ridge -- likely will encounter some 4th class climbing. Sometimes used as a descent route, but be prepared for icy old snow remaining into the summer. Leaves the Mono Pass Hiking Trail at (N37.4187 W118.7643). Cross creek at (N37.4162 W118.7675) at NE corner of Ruby Lake, then traverse on talus above East side of the Lake, and up to reach a gentle area (N37.4096 W118.7704). Find a place to go SW across the creek and reach the bottom of the gully around (N37.4075 W118.7753). Roughly W or WNW up talus + scree -- perhaps snow which might be hard + icy, which might require special footwear, or detours onto more difficulty rock climbing. At top of gully, turn Right and climb 130 ft NNW to the Ruby Peak summit (N37.4088 W118.7822). - - > See the ESE Gully / East Ridge Indirect page for details+photos+comments.
