Approach to Granite Mountain, Front Porch

2.4 mi 3.9 km
997 ft 304 m
-39 ft -12 m

Map shows approach from the Playa Trailhead. This is the first small lot near Granite Basin Lake. A bit farther along the road, you'll find the Metate Trailhead (left side), from which you can also approach. Either way, hike from parking lot, find Trail 261 headed right. Follow 261 for almost a mile until you go through a small clearing area where other trails split off to the west and continue up the hill. You leave the trail at the second major switchback (the first one usually has rocks piled in front of it to warn you not to take it). The trail can be a bit overgrown, but keep your eyes open and you should find the occasional cairn to keep you on track. The map shows the path to the Front Porch below the Flying Buttress.
