are we crazy to want to try? been planning a trip up moonlight or one of the associated lines for a while. Weather was looking good, but now its looking like a high of 95 for our window (wed-sat)...Is this suicide? It gets full sun all day more or less right? Are there any similarly rated lines (8-9 pitches c2ish) that might be in the shade we can do as an alternative?

Prodigal Sun goes into shade pretty early in the day. Fix, bring lots of water, climb late?

I just aided moonlight, a little over a month ago in mid-august. Crazy? yes. In august it went in the shade at 3:30 and sunset was at 9:30. You can climb in the morning until about 10:30, or 11 then it gets crazy hot until at least 3 when you get in the shade.

If you're there wednesday-saturday... I recommend doing organasm on wednesday and then fixing the first 3 pitches of moonlight wednesday afternoon/night. Then come back thursday afternoon and you should be able to make it up to the ledge on top of pitch 4 or 5 before dark. Then finish before it gets too hot the next morning.

Don't get stuck on moonlight in the middle of the day... it's miserable. Make sure you have enough water... a gallon per person per day doesn't quite cut it if you're in the sun like that.

Leading 2nd pitch on the headwall.

Dude I've done several trips to Zion when its hot to do walls and your best bet is to climb at night. Try to find a place to chill during the heat of the day. Climb late evening and through the night. You will be more comfortable and climbing at night is more fun and less scary than it sounds.

I'm not sure what you mean. I aint been around this site that long, recently started posting stuff on the forum and if its a good idea why should it stay dead? But seriously climbing at night is the only way I'd do wall in Zion when its miserably hot.

How about scheduling your trips for something like Moonlight at a better time of year? A little research goes a LONG way.
