Planning a trip out to Zion this fall in the early October time frame. Planning on doing some hiking/exploring and hope to hop on a few routes as well. With that being said, does any have any suggestions on which campsite to stay at? Any recommendations would be great. Is Lava Point worth the drive? Are Watchman and South Campgrounds mass chaos? Also thought about getting a backcountry permit. Thanks for the input. Cheers

Here's a good, free, no permit camping area with great views -- Map: goo.gl/maps/umuqX. Take Bridge Road, go up the hill and you'll come across dirt roads leading to camping. Its been a few years since I've been there so you might want to confirm this area is still open with folks in Springdale. South Campground does have a lot of sites and is right in the thick of it. Could still be pleasant though. Only have camped there in late November so the whole park was empty. Have fun.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
