Hanging out at the Yogi Cracks

Description

The Yogi Crack Area is the sort of small ampitheater west and above the Gold Wall on the north side of the canyon end. The Yogi Cracks are a set of three similar crack routes that feature slippery rock and tricky protection in places. In general, the cracks get harder as they go from left (9-) to right (9+).

This area is popular with climbers looking for moderate lines. Take care here as the slippery rock and tricky protection has caused severe accidents (including one fatality) in the past.

Getting There

The Yogis are found at the western end of the canyon where the Gold Pond is located, and west down the same canyon side as the Gold Wall.

Dancing is the rightmost Yogi Crack. It's probably offers a marginally less amount of slick rock. Climb up the "apron" to reach a sort of overhanging tight-hands crack. Pull over the corner at the top onto a good ledge. A steep hands crack leadst to the rim from there....[more]   Browse More Classics in AZ
