Jamie working a fun problem.

Description

Boulder Town, aka Boulder City, is a collection of large boulders near String Lake. They're located in a beautiful, forested setting and offer a range of bouldering problems and topropes. The boulders are part of an old glacial moraine and are composed of the same rock found in the Tetons.

There are about 5-6 boulders worth climbing and they're all located in basically the same area. The landings are a little sketchy, so a pad is recommended. The largest boulders all have bolts available on top for easy toproping.

I'm not into highball bouldering but still managed to find plenty of cool problems - most starting with sit starts. Those willing to get high off the ground will find even more opportunity.

Don't come expecting world class bouldering, and instead come looking for a nice time in a beautiful setting. There are problems available for all skill levels, and with a little imagination everyone can have a great time.

In addition to a pad, be sure to bring bug spray - the mosquitoes can be vicious!

Getting There

Head West (towards the Tetons) on the North Jenny Lake road. Drive about 1/2 mile and there will be a large turnout on the right - this turnout is marked "Cathedral Group Scenic Turnout".

No boulders are visible from this turnout as they're well hidden in the trees. Walk West on the developed trail through the sage brush. Continue on this trail for about 10 minutes into the forest until a well developed trail branches off to the right and up a little hill. Take this trail and walk another 5 minutes to the boulders.

This boulder has some nice problems on its SE corner and S face. A traverse is probably possible as well. Bolts are available on top.

There are some large boulders on the island at the south end of Leigh Lake. This is a fun island to visit, the problem being that it is an island and requires a canoe, raft, or short swim.
