Description

Visiting the Tetons but want something with no commitment? Try a day of sport climbing at Blacktail Butte. The limestone climbing is technical, polished, and generally hard... but the view is world class! The routes are mostly 5.11s and 5.12s, with a handful of 5.10s. There are about 20 routes to keep you busy between the three walls - lower, middle, and upper.

Getting There

Park in a developed turnout just a little North of the Moose junction (a few miles north of the airport). Follow the stairs up to Lower Blacktail Butte, or the trail heading south to Upper Blacktail.

Blacktail Boulder Traverse 5.12 V5  WY : Grand Teton National Park : ... : Lower Blacktail Butte
This tricky traverse boasts perhaps the shortest approach in Jackson. A huge array of big, polished holds promote a number of sequences at the many cruxes. Everybody seems to have their own way to go. A fun way to get a deep pump. Character is way different than the less-steep edges of Lower Blacktail....[more]   Browse More Classics in WY
