Dome Rock is a mountain pillar in Sheridan County in the state of Wyoming (WY). Dome Rock climbs to 9,190 feet (2,801.11 meters) above sea level. Expect sunny days with wind, and hot temps. The rock is much like most of Wyoming grit stone (granite), dirty, slabby, crimpy, somewhat brittle. But great quality by all means if you know what to look for.
Getting There
From Alcova, go 7.5 miles south. Take left fork 15miles to Dome Rock on the left. When you're parallel to the rock, turn east onto dirt road. The main area is on the west side. A staple area for climbers from Casper.
The Classics
Mountain Project's determination of some of the classic, most popular, highest rated routes for Dome Rock/Pedro Mountains:
my partner and i attempted to climb at dome last weekend. we had the guidebook to fremont/dome, but couldn't get beta at the mt sports shop in casper since they were closed for the weekend... we turned off the main road (406 i think?) to the small road headed toward the rock. a rancher truck followed us. we stopped, the driver got out, told us we were on private land, and threatened our lives several times... we tried to apologize/reason for a bit, he only became more angry. we then turned around and headed back to fremont. does anyone know if there is an approach to this area that keeps us on BLM land/roads? we thought we were on the right track, but the rancher man mentioned that lately he has been chasing off many climbers/campers from this area... would be great to get updated access information posted. thanks!
