Welcome

Whether you're looking for rock, ice, alpine or all of it you'll find it in Wyoming. Wyoming is new to MountainProject so come back and visit often as the area grows. If your favorite area is missing how about adding it?

Devil's Tower
Classic crack climbs including the Durrance route which is one of the 50 classic climbs in North America. A 4-6 pitch route that tops out at the summit. A great introduction to climbing at the tower, but start up early to avoid crowds and afternoon thunderstorms particularly during spring and summer. Fall is the most settled time of year. Once you have tagged the summit you can pick the first couple of pitches on a route to get the best bang for your buck.

Grand Teton National Park
Some of the best alpine climbing in the country together with good cragging and multipitch climbing such as in Cascade Canyon. The Tetons are the only mountain range that reminds me of the mountains back home in New Zealand.

South Fork, Cody
100m-plus ice climbing with an alpine feel.

Vedauwoo
If you can climb wide cracks, then Vedauwoo is Fat crack heaven. For the rest of us it's a place to be humble! The Nautilus is probably the standout area with a great variety of routes. Don't be swayed by all the wide-crack talk; Vedauwoo also has lots of "normal" cracks as well. Tape is pretty essential here, so stock up before a visit.

Sink's Canyon
The most popular sport climbing area in Wyoming. Great limestone pocket pulling!

Ten Sleep
Miles and miles of Dolomite line either side of Ten Sleep Canyon. Nearly 1000 sport routes pepper the cliffs and will test your finger strength. Plug your fingers into the finest pocket pulling around.

Coming to Jackson area of Wyoming for a month or so. I have climbed in the Tetons but I am looking for an easy area with a flat base at the bottom, short approach to bring my wife and 2 year old son climbing. Any suggestions?

I will be flying into Jackson hole with a friend July 4-13 planning to backpack and explore the area. We plan on a few days in the tetons, a few in the wind river range. We are hoping to not have to rent a car but will need a place to store some gear as well as a ride if we dont have to rent a car. Any insight in the area would be most helpful. Thanks!

Rock Climbing Photo: This year marks the 20th International Climbers' F...
This year marks the 20th International Climbers' Festival, and the celebration is going to be big. We have recruited a huge line up of presenters (Tommy Caldwell, Henry Barber, Emily Harrington, Timmy O'Neil, Expedition Denali's Erica Wynn, and Cedar Wright). Our clinic schedule features top athletes like Jonathan Siegrist, Audrey Sniezek, Eric Horst, Nick Duttle and many more! Though, the biggest anticipation of all is debut of the HIstory of Lander Climbing Documentary at the festival.

Hey,
I'm looking to combine good backpacking and sport climbing into one trip. I was looking at Sinks but it kind of seems like car camping for the most part. I would do the wind river range but I don't have trad gear or the skill set for trad. I also considered the Uintas but can't find enough information. Any bit helps, Thanks.

Just to be clear, you're looking for a backcountry sport climbing crag?

Doesn't exist in Wyoming. You might be able to get in some backpacking in the Lander area by hiking between Sinks and Wild Iris and the other crags, but I've never heard of a sport climbing area that was so far from the road that a dead drill battery would take a 4-day round trip trek to resolve.

The current Governor of Wyoming, Matt Mead, has decided to open a website-map/database that shows whether a parcel of state owned land has public access. He did this in hopes of lowering confrontations that occur with ranchers and the general public that recreates on these parcels.

From the Black Hills, SD and will be around Jackson area for the month of september and looking for people to climb with. My schedule will be pretty open. I like it all, chossy mountain routes to pebble pulling. (I prefer route climbing) Would be willing to travel to the winds/lander area as well.

Shoot me a text or call (605)391-9225
Thanks,
Harrison
