Coming up to Colorado for the Labor day weekend. I'm not able to take a rope because checking a bag costs too much to be worth it (taking United, Southwest only flies out of Nashville which is 3 hours away otherwise this wouldn't be a problem). I've only got enough room in my carry on for my rack and clothes for the weekend. Which brings me to my question: Would anyone be willing to let me borrow a 50 or 60 (or hell, 70 or 80 if you have it) for the weekend or even a day if i leave some collateral, like my laptop or something? Preferably someone who has a reputation on here, I'm obviously not going to try and do this with someone who just joined the boards yesterday. Could be wishful thinking, but I just thought I'd give it a shot. I'll be flying into Denver Friday early evening and then driving to Fort Collins where I'll be staying.

Myself placing a a blue/yellow offset MC to protect between Bolt 2/3 just post crux .

Picture credit goes to eric Singleton, and many thanks to Josh Bagget for the great belay.

see how much it'd cost to ship your rope to where your staying. Should be able to fit inside a priority box.

Rhododendrons at the New River Gorge (late May - early June).

My life line only goes where I go, and I don't lend it out to anybody. Further, you shouldn't trust YOUR life to any piece of gear with an unknown history....especially a rope!

As said, try shipping your own. Or, ask the rope owner to climb with you.

It's about 16 bucks USPS, and I don't even know where the UPS place is. But I'm needing to use it on the day before i leave (okay not NEED, more like want) so unless I did 2 day shipping or express shipping (which is like 30-40 bucks for a rope) it wouldn't get there on time.

Chris setting up the rappel in the South-East Gully of Arrowhead. If anyone cleans that stopper and pin, I'd be glad to have it back.

If you want to swing by Boulder, I've got a rope you can borrow, its 60m of 9.4mm and in good shape. Send me an email if you're interested.

I think rope technology has come a really long way since the days of never letting the thing out of your sight, keeping a journal of every time its use, ext. As I know this viewpoint will likely start a healthy debate, I will repeat the words of a wise old boss of mine: "show me the data." If you can fine one incidence of a rope breaking (not being cut) in the field, I'm all ears. Cut resistance is a whole different matter as a new rope can be cut by a sharp edge just as easily as an old rope, and the damage from a partial cut is easily detected.

Evan, I always bring my rope as a carry on. Put it in your rope bag and throw it over your shoulder. Just think of it as a purse or computer bag and put it underneath your seat. You save money on the weight and you have it with you in case they lose your luggage.

Exactly... There is the chance that Evan could try and kill me by soaking the rope in battery acid, but I'm going to believe that he's a person and won't do that.

The point is, why risk damage to yourself or lender's gear (rope) just for the sake of convenience. In my experience, it's not worth the risk/hassle for either person.

But, to each their own. Climb on...

FWIW, I've got an older 10.5 60 that you can use as well. Live in golden, work in boulder, would be happy to hand off after a morning pitch in eldo :)

I'm willing to increase my risk of dying by 0.00001% in order to help a fellow climber in need. I recently had the airlines loose my checked luggage for four days on a trip to the French alps. Being in an amazing climbing area with not gear really sucks.

I've also got an older 60m/10.5mm rope you can borrow. I'm in Fort Collins. Let me know if you need a partner at all, too. =)

Thanks for all the offers guys. I'm just going to be taking it out for a day of moderate(s) at Lumpy, and I've never really had rope issues on any of the stuff I can do there.

Is anyone going to be near I 25 Friday evening? If not then Ian I'll hit you up since you're in the area. Wish I had time for multiple partners (haha) but this isn't a climbing trip so I've only got a day of real climbing, maybe a few hours of bouldering.

UPS has become outrageous in prices. Post office does anything in a priority box for 15 bucks anywhere US lower 48.
