I moved to Surat Thani, Thailand to teach English with the intent of climbing at Railay Beach each weekend. Didn't end up climbing nearly as much as I had planned. Travel was a bit of a pain because the trip required a bus ride as well as a longtail boat ride. By the time the bus arrived at the pier after school on Friday, the longtail boats had stopped making trips to the beach. The next morning the boats had to wait until the boat was full before taking off. Occasionally, the sea was too rough to make the trip. I was lucky to get a full days worth of climbing in on a weekend. It ended up being more hassle than a two day weekend trip was worth.
Stayed in Thailand for 6 years. Loved the country and culture. Only climbed on three day weekends or more. You might have more luck if you were teaching in Krabi and were able to skip the 3 hour bus ride to the pier. From Krabi the longtail boat ride is less than an hour and would make weekend trips a breeze.
