I am curious if anyone around Mt. Woodson has taken to highball bouldering out any of the cracks on a regular basis? From the little I know about the place, it seems as if there is a solid tradition of TRing things, then going ropeless on them after dialing them. However, it seems to me that many of these little gems would make for absolutely classic experiences as highball boulders. Some names, like Rick Piggot and Bob and Jocelyn Van Belle, seem at least locally legendary for such feats. Mostly I am looking for any cool pictures or stories of people going ropeless on the premium miniatures of the area. Post up!!!!1111111

Not sure I follow your question. Perhaps I don't understand the difference between highball bouldering it and going ropeless?

HB means you use a pad?

I'm not sure I follow your question. Highball bouldering just means bouldering things which border on free soloing. Since pads have come out, they are used for this purpose, among other things...

Basically, the idea is to make a thread about Mt. Woodson's awesome and rich history of this :)

There's a bunch of people that still go out with a pad and do the "long" routes at Woodson. Most the routes I've climbed out there were with out a rope just due to the fact the routes are really short to pull out ropes and cams. Ive seen most people just highball Robbins, Elsas, slant crack......etc. Woodson is where I learned how to crack climb the classics are endless. Just watch out in Everest area POISON OAK!!!!

Seriously, kind of hoping for a thread with some cool pictures which celebrates Mt. Woodson for it's good qualities. My apologies if this offends you.

Cool. I also prefer the highball style, or just a TR setup, for this length of climb. Easier to get more climbing in a day. I love that Mt. Woodson is perfect for that. Got any cool pictures?

I'll have to dig around but I've got some good pics. Check out the guide on the site it's full of all the old guys back in the 80's getting it out there. If you look it up you can find the old competition pictures.

I look forward to some good stuff!

Also, yes, the online info here and elsewhere for Mt. Woodson is great. Tons of cool new and old pics. Lots of great ones to help plan a day. It would be great to see some pictures of some of the more obscure or less known stuff.

The Burch Zone...

It would be awesome to see some pictures of some of the less known stuff around the area :)

The idea here is to get some love for some of the obscurities around Mt. Woodson or elsewhere which may be under threat of housing or other development, now or in the future. Plus we all get to see some cool pictures.

Also, Burch, not sure why supertopo is somehow worth your time and effort but MP, a service with more to offer and less corporate oversight, is apparently 'uncool' or something. Lol. Thankfully you are not the only one in your generation...
