The Frigate is an impressive-looking formation found just above the Porkchop Buttress and Dungeon Wall. The overhanging west wall contains the challenging route "Pooper", and on the overhanging southeast wall you will find "Flying Dutchman", another difficult route. Most other climbs here are easy to moderate.
Getting There
Head up the West Bluff Trail from the parking lot across from the boat landing on the southwest end of the lake. Hike up the West Bluff trail to a relatively obvious climbers trail about 3/4 of the way up that heads east through the woods. Take this trail to the top of Misery Rocks. Descend the gully on the south side of Misery Rocks, then move northeast straight across Misery Gully. You will see the obvious overhanging west wall of The Frigate below Dutchman's Rampart, a series of broken 40 foot walls.
You can also approach the Frigate by hiking up to Porkchop from the trail along the West edge of the Lake. Hike to the top of Porkchop buttress around the right (North) side. From the top of Porkchop, traverse left (South) across a narrow ledge, under an overhang. You have just passed under Flying Dutchman and The Jib.
A third approach would be to hike to the top of the bluff at Cleo's Amphitheater, hike down to the base of Cleo's Needle to the right (South). Keep heading down and right until you get to the top of Porkchop/bottom of Dutchman.
