BETA PHOTO: Garner Park Shelter from the northeast
Description
The Garner Park Shelter is made of what looks to be limestone blocks. There are plenty of nice big ledges to stand on, but if you get creative you can find only small crimpers to hang on to. There are traverse problems up to 30 feet long, more if you try to traverse the whole shelter. This building is ripe for the picking!
Getting There
Garner Park is on the corner of Mineral Point Rd. and Rosa Rd. in Madison.
Cool place in town to get in some training. Traversing the whole building is the way to build endurance. Be sure to include the hand traverse with heel hooks along above the lower floor.
I have gone and done most of the other problems in and outside the shelter. I want to go back with a few other friends and give the traverse a try. I'm sure it won't be too bad esp. with some great resting points around the building. If you are ever in Madison visiting or if you live in town I would stop by and have a good time with this shelter. Do It !!!
