Winter cragging in Red Rock

Will be passing through Nevada during Christmas with kids(8 - 12).

Wondering if Red Rock will be a worth a couple days climbing at that time?
Will there be snow? Accessible for Kids?
Are there enough TR routes in 8-10 range?
Is Handren's book still the best?

Yes to all of the above. Also, this site has a lot of routes not included in Jerry's fantastic guidebook.

Would strongly suggest checking the variety of threads under the FAQ's sticky above this thread for several comprehensive discussions of these topics. Enjoy your trip! For years before moving back to Vegas, I would basically only visit at Thanksgiving and Christmas and never ran out of things to do, so there is plenty to keep yourself occupied...enjoy!

Yes...but I'd suggest sticking to the south-facing crags! Made the mistake of not doing that a few times, and came to regret it...

PS: Calico Hills is a great outdoor playground for kids (and their parents too)
