post on when the rock climbing season begins and ends

This blog post was inspired by a conversation I had with a climber partner, of "when does the rock climbing season begin and end?" What do ya'll think?

It begins when we leave the parking lot. It ends when we reach the bar.

For me it ended in December and hoping it starts again this month. Didn't make it outside at all in January. Very sad. It was too cold most days in January, not for me necessarily, but partners.

How I Send

It ends when the ice forms and I sharpen the tools and pons.

It begins when it becomes silly to spend a day freezing in the mountains when it is sunny and 70 in the foothills.

The season hasn't ended for me yet this Winter. Climbing is cyclic though, even if you are always climbing.

It starts when you are on your first climb ever, and it ends when you die.

It never ends, but July and August are a bit too hot to climb in the sun:)

Is this an Aspen Extreme quote? I heard T.J. Burke climbs as well as he skis, and established many FA's on Independence Pass when he wasn't laying pipe with rich locals

i think the season ended when i heard a loud series of pops in my shoulder. i guess it will begin when i actually pull down hard on something and don't scream like a 5 year old girl at a birthday party.

I think you are a panzy. I climb anything year around. If its above 40F I still trad climb, if it above 30F I still sport climb, if its below 30F I ice climb. I adjust the cloths I wear and toss in a hand warmer into my chalk bag.

It's called "Trolling" - basically it's when a person who, in most cases, has no true semblance of a life as we know it and therefore must try and justify their existance through posting on Internet forums in a negative manner or in a way construed to elicit negative responses such as yours.

Now that you know, don't feed the trolls. By not feeding the troll, you deny it the subsistance it requires to survive. Next!

And, and to be on topic, +1 to the comment about it starts when you get out of the car and ends when you hit the bar. There really isn't a beginning or an end beyond what you choose.

I climb in the winter, even when it gets all the way down to 70 F.

I hear you, slim. 12 weeks post-op now. Just did my first post-op gear lead today, a 5.8. It felt great! (Well, my shoulder didn't feel great but it was awesome to be touching rock and placing gear again.) The season just started again, slowly. It'll come again soon for you I'm sure.
