I was asked to come up with a strong controversial statement for a paper I was assigned in school. I am looking for feedback and opinions in either direction. I am not saying that I believe the statement that I wrote, but for this papers sake, I will take the stance that I do agree.
Rock climbing as a whole is losing its purity because it has been tainted by lazy convenience and safety.
Follow up thoughts:
What is Purity? How has technology played a role? Is purity the way rock climbing should be?
PURITY is in the eye's of your climbing partner wen he or she tops out their first tower or route ... or in your hart for just having fun being out side with good people ... or not taping in the creek... just kidding.. it's all in the eye of the climber.. DF
purity is telling all those "gumbies" how much fun they are not having and telling them how to climb when they are obviously having a great time ... weird that "purity" is often the refuge of those who want to cleanse the impurity ... WWII comes to mind ;)
...and faster than even Godwin's Law would have predicted. Nicely done, Sir!

When you get a couple grams of the good shit that isn't moist or clumpy and has the slightest offwhite tinge to it- and it lasts for a while because you're scared to do too much of it for fear of your heart exploding.
Oh, and purity in climbing is largely a matter of individual opinion and perspective.
How true Bearbreeder! Sad how when we see the word "purity" many will think of the nazi's.
Purity will mean different things to many of us. When you're on the rock/ice a few hundred feet off the ground watching birds fly below you and having all of your problems disappear for that period of time. Nothing exists at that moment. ahh. I need to climb.
Rock climbing as a whole is losing its purity because it has been tainted by lazy convenience and safety.
"lazy convenience" is not proper English... I would go with "convenience and concerns about safety and the environmental impact of a popular common place activity."
