Wet Work Dihedral

Add Photo  Add Comment    Printer View

Description

Awesome. A couple big moves over several stacked small boulders allow you to reach the Yosemite style dihedral. The crack begins with perfect hand jams and slowly widens towards the top. You wont want to come off this one up high!

Location

High in the canyon, just before the rocky staircase section of trail with the guard rail. Immediately to the right of the trail (hikers right while moving away from the trailhead).

Protection

Several pads and spotters would allow it to be bouldered more safely. Also, the dihedral would be easily protectable on lead via cams of various sizes.

I don't know who did this first. Im sure someone must have since it is right off the trail.

There's also this one directly to the right. No crack, so more of a stemming problem, but much easier to protect than it's neighbor to the left.

Here's a list of noteworthy (in some circles) folks who could have/probably climbed this line prior to 2012:

Yvon Chouinard
Tim McMahon
Bill Bancroft
Rick Mosher
Amos Clifford
Steve Tucker
Chuck Fitch
Gary Anderson
Mike Forkash
Kevin Brown
Curt Dixon
Thor Archer
Menzo Baird

To name just a few. I know I'm missing some. If nothing else, you get an idea of some SB history.

Quite the list there, Andy. Thanks for the history lesson!
