The West Tiers are the two west facing walls (one on top of the other) east of Split Dome. In general, the rock is solid and fun to climb. Most of the established routes are protected by bolts, however, Blood and Cuts and Black Panther are two noteworthy crack climbs. Bolted climbs worth ascending are Hot Dog in a Bun, The Patriot, Lee's Health Studio, and Predator Tigress - a disquieting name for a perplexing climb! The descent for every route is an easy walk off.
Walk east around Split Rock a few hundred yards to reach the West Tiers.

Hot Dog in a Bun 5.10d CA : Joshua Tree National Park : ... : West Tiers
This fun route is located about 125 feet left of Blood And Cuts, and 70 feet right of the descent gully. It climbs an unusual groove/chute which ends just below the top of the lower tier. Lots of stems, chimney, and other moves, that make you feel like, well...a hot dog in a bun. The crux is the transition from the groove to high angle josh friction. 2 of 5 stars. Walk down the gully. ...[more] Browse More Classics in CA
