Hello Southern Arizona Climber!

Do you want to give back to your community? Meet CASA, a new Access Fund–affiliated climbing organization.

Climbing Association of Southern Arizona

The Climbing Association of Southern Arizona (CASA) advocates for local climbers through stewardship, education and partnership with land managers.

Who we are:
CASA is a home for climbers. It’s a place where you can learn new skills and have fun being a steward of the areas we use. Our work is the foundation for our advocacy for climbers, and it empowers us to address access issues when they arise.

Structure:
Modeled after the Access Fund, members support our projects and events through participation and financial contributions. CASA is incorporated with ratified bylaws and managing directors, and is on the way to 501(c) tax exempt status.

Projects:
Our goal is to provide you with resources, opportunities, and education so you can work on what’s important to you. We’re currently planning:

  • Adopt a Crag events
  • Regular Mt. Lemmon highway cleanups
  • Graffiti abatement/removal plan for Windy Point
  • Fixed hardware replacement team
  • Education opportunities for climbers at all stages
  • Partnership with local land managers, user groups, and other organizations through collaborative relationships

Get Involved
We’re excited to work with you -- however you’re most comfortable. One-time volunteers are welcome, as are long-term supporters. We’re building this together.
  • Sign up to participate, join, learn more and receive email communications from CASA. theclimbershome.org/join.html
  • If you’d like to work on a project or help in a more formal way please email info@theclimbershome.org.

Looking forward to a productive year,

The Team at CASA

Just for the sake of curiousity... How does this organization differ from Southern Arizona Climber's Coalition (SACC)?

Thanks,
Mac

Great question, Mac!

CASA formed to create a simple way for climbers to do good work, give back to their community and obtain great education.

We're structured more like the Access Fund and that will allow us to spend more of our time doing awesome projects, building connections with land managers, offering great opportunities, supporting new and innovative stewardship, and advocating for climbers.

Russ,

Thanks for your question.

Our goal with CASA is that the directors aren't "driving the bus." The muscle of the organization is going to be people like yourself that care about giving back to the climbing community. We've created CASA as a vehicle through which climbers can work on projects that they care about. I hope that our projects and work stand for themselves and that ultimately our names are meaningless.

I encourage you to watch our work, join us at our Feb 28th Adopt a Crag, and judge for yourself.

Team Leaders:
Eric Ruljancich - Stewardship
Geir Hundal - Education
Luke Bertelsen/Geir Hundal - Hardware

Directors:
Lora Rivera
Dani DellaGiustina
Shannon Maitland
Alex Brummer
Eric Sophiea

There are several others working on various things. Add you name to the list!

Good words Eric, thanks for explaining stuff a bit further for the community.

Thanks for asking Russ! Hope you're doing great. :)

Great suggestion, Russ! Thanks for the feedback. :)

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
