Waxing your tool

Has anyone ever tried to wax the shaft of their ice tools? I was thinking of using sex wax instead of taping my tools for the season. Does anyone have any experience or opinions on this?

I am so trying not to read into this wrong....!!! Wax my tool? I truly don't think that board wax that helps on a horizontal moving sport object is going to hold anywhere near the friction needed on a vertical ice tool handle for grasping consistently. I think it might even be slick,,especially since the sexwax isn't designed for use at below freezing temps. Now if you are talking about some other 'tool',,,,well I'm clueless on the use there too!!

BITD when folks had woodies they would use XC ski grip wax. Blue works well in all temps. With glass shafts I used grip tape:

The sex wax would probably get on other gear. Sticky stuff like that could have bad consequences on cams, biners, gri gri, just to name a few.

Yes, I have used sex wax on my tool shaft before, although not for ice climbing. I find silicone-based lasts longer than water-based, but it is a bitch to shower off once you finish your sporting activity. All in all, I would say my favorite sex wax for hardcore sporting activities would be WET Platinum.

I'm pretty sure that unless you're unusually good at the task you'll appreciate the results better if you have someone else do it. Paid or not.

I feel like there's a joke about the movie "Point Break" here somewhere.. A guy waxes his ice tool at the beach then goes into the bank and scuffs the counter. I dunno know something!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
