| Hello fellow climbers! I'm posting this early because I haven't made plane reservations yet but I'm searching for a partner before I even make my reservations to increase my likelihood of getting some good routes in! While visiting some family in Denver (that does not climb) this summer I would like to hook up with a partner to climb with and help me navigate the areas since I am completely unfamiliar with climbing in CO. I will be bringing all my sport gear and a 60M rope in hopes to find something to climb while I'm out there! I am an avid sport climber that regularly leads 5.11's at my home crag, Red River Gorge. I have just started some trad climbing but would rather sport climb on this trip if possible. As incentive I can provide you all my knowledge about Red River Gorge if your planing on going there or just interested in an amazing eastern climbing area! So if this interests you please respond to this post or email me at mr.enviro@gmail.com to make further arrangements. I'm really looking forward to this trip, Thanks! | FLAG |

Why fly all the way to Colorado to sport climb on stuff that isn't nearly as good as the Red??? Take advantage of what Colorado has to offer and get on some of those awesome multi-pitch trad lines! You can sport climb all you want at home, experience some new climbing styles while ya have the chance! | FLAG |

I would have to agree with you, I would love to experience what CO has to offer... different rocks, different climbing and techniques. I'm just very uninformed at the moment about climbing in this area and looking for some friendly advice on where to go and what to climb. Best sport climbing is what I keep hearing about the Red, but unfortunately as of now I have nothing to compare it to since I haven't been anywhere else. My summer climbing plans will change that! I would absolutely love to climb a multi pitch trad route while I'm out there! But, since I am just learning trad and not yet confident in my ability to place gear so I'm not sure if that is a great idea. If your offering me to follow you on one I wouldn't say no though! Any advice or suggestions from people that know the Denver and surrounding climbing areas at this point would be great! Thanks | FLAG |

I'm not sure where or what lumpy is (UPDATE: I found the lumpy ridge in Estes Park and will be studying the area) but, I'll take you up on some trad climbing. I'm just now learning trad and building anchors, so I'll be practicing constantly to prepare myself for this trip. If your going to be available just shoot me an email with your number so I can get a hold of you when i get to Denver. Thanks! | FLAG |

| I climbed at The Red for 5 years from 1990 onward, so I believe I've had a taste of it, both trad and sport. No, you can't find anything here comparable to it, in terms of being the same, but I don't think that's what he's after. He's coming to check something else out. We certainly have quality sport climbing here. Ra and the Halidome are fantastic and *IS* multi-pitch but sport. If you want to pull pockets, but on another medium, get someone to take you to Shelf Road and hit the limestone. If you want to hit a sub-alpine environment, but don't want the Ra sandbag or multi-pitch, try The Monastery. If you want a river canyon with easy access, try Clear Creek Canyon. there are some good multi-pitch routes there too. IE Solid Gold (5 pitches, 450 feet, and a pretty good route at 11d/12a) Even the lowly Boulder Canyon has some great sport lines. But the single most RRG-like sport climbing here is the backs of the flatirons, were steep lines though compact pocketed sandstone can be found. As consistently good at The Red? No... but worth doing, and different. Maybe Mike should take him to Castlewood Canyon? (snicker) I'm not saying not to do some long trad lines, I'm just saying that it's not like we don't have great sport climbing too. I am primarily a trad climber after all, as I was even back at the Red... but let's not exaggerate out "lack" of the perhaps 5000 sport routes we've got within and hour or two of here. I'd offer for the sake of another fellow RRG local, but I'll be out of town or have family in town for much of the summer and I can't make a promise on a date I don't know. | FLAG |

| Thanks for the info Tony B, I'm going to want to hit all kinds of climbs on this trip to see where I stand with different types of rock and how well I preform outside of the RRG. I've climbed with some people in the RRG from Cali that normally sends 5.13's and watched them get shut down on some 11's.... So I'm hoping that't not going to happen to me! | FLAG |

| The Castlewood refs of late have certainly made me snicker. Not to mention that other ugliness, but can you imagine the furor if another CWC guide came out!?! That would certainly bring about the zombie apocalypse...... I've posted up here twice now about he's not going to find any sport out here comparable to the Red, but pull them down b/c I went to delta bravo in order to curb my over-posting habit. My advice here Michael is find a partner to tour you around the local Trad Classics, that's what you can't get better from where you hang out. And while we have various overhanging spots, the Denver-centric place with the most overhanging JUG HAULS (important distinction) is actually Castlewood; heh. | FLAG |

| I would hate to ask someone to tour me around like a guide, although that would be awesome if someone offered. I'm studying the area as much as possible so I won't need so much guidance, just some friendly partners to share belays and good times. I am really excited to do some multi pitch though since I've only climbed about 100ft, so I will be shooting for that if possible! Sounds like I'll have to hit Castlewood at some point because the over hung jug hauls are just so much fun! | FLAG |

Please don't let all the CWood refs of late lead you to believe that its to be taken very seriously. Shumin Wu's comment in a different thread about it being for folks who don't want to pay for a gym is pretty damn close to spot on. People have been teasing me about it lately, which is the only reason it is being spoken of. In a nutshell, it is a series of 35' to 45' cliffs made of some sort natural concrete. | FLAG |

| Ahhhh, thanks for the clarification. I would had been super disappointed if I went! UPDATE: looks like i will be arriving in Denver around the 4th of July give or take a few days, and will be staying for about 10 days. Nothing is booked as of now but that is the current plan. | FLAG |

| UPDATE: Good news = My trip is booked for 17 days starting July 2nd! Bad news = After booking my flight I totaled my motorcycle when some douche bag blindly turned left in front of me with out any clearance to make the turn or any room for me to avoid the collision. I broke bones and I'm unable to preform even the simplest of tasks by my self. So much for my summer of climbing my ass off! I hope to heal sooner than later and possibly be back to climbing in the RRG by fall (fingers crossed) Could be worse, glad to be alive and kickin' but really bummed about my immediate climbing future :( | FLAG |
