How is Vedauwoo in July.... looks like the highs are in the 70s, so enough shady climbing to stay cool? Andy Laakmann

July can be wonderful up there. The Nautilus is easy to chase sun or shade around. The Holdout and valley massif offer good am shade too. The upper blaire area is also easy to chase sun or shade. Maybe we'll see you up there.

Hot and dry. Shade chasing is quite beneficial during the middle of the day. Fortunately, with its JTree-like random lumps of granite with many facets, it's also quite easy. You can catch some early east or south-facing climbs in the morning and then make your way to the shade in the afternoon; sleep in and catch some east-facing climbs in the afternoon; and/or just catch some evening climbing at almost any facet--all on the same formation. Most of the climbing is within walking distance (just a few furlongs away) of the pay campground; free camping abounds as well.

Thunderstorms are an issue in July.

The average numbers might say 70s, but it seems a lot hotter than that to me in July IME. It's definitely worth a trip anytime May-October.
