Trap Dike

Hi Everyone,

I will be driving through Wyoming in August (10th to 12th) and am looking for some climbing partners in the Vedauwoo area. I have never done that type of climbing, but can lead 5.8 trad just about anywhere but have never really done the "off-widths" that are so famous in the area.

Thanks,

Dave

I'm interested to see what people say about temps in August. My first thoughts are that it will be REALLY HOT, but I've never been.

Not so hot in Vedauwoo in August. For some reason I am always cold in Wyoming, no matter the season. The 'woo is around 8k and of course its windy so it stay cool.
Leading 5.8 there is not like leading 5.8 anywhere else. be ready to get spanked and be sure to tape up. Good offwidth technique will keep you from feeling like someone kicked the shit out of you. Really cool place.

Good to know.

I was going to comment about the grade as well, but I figure I'd leave it to someone who had experienced the pain first hand. Hopefully I will some day!

Me

Hi Dave

Strongly recommend a pair of high top climbing shoes !!!! A good intro to the the voo IMO is Mother 1 (5.7+) found on the Nautilus just as you get into the area If that does not throw you, Middle Parallel Space (5.9) on the North East side of the Nautilus is a sweet one as well. . . If you are out at Reynolds Hill highly recommend the Labyrinth (5.9) it feels like your vertically spelunking . . .

Any way hope this helped
Happy sending

I think it can be miserably hot there in Aug. The elevation and seeking shade helps, but sometimes it's still just balls hot.

The rock is a little more slick than the Platte but not entirely different. If you've climbed in the Platte a bunch it won't be an entirely weird experience to climb in the Voo.
