DescriptionCoal Wash area is the location of several towers in the NW area of the San Rafael Swell. Some of these are Golden Gate,Joe and his Dog,Devils Monument,Sinbad Rock (Chimney Rock)Napes Needle,and the latest to have a first ascent The Twin Priests by Ross and Potter. Many of the towers in this area were climbed years earlier by Frosty Weller and friends.These towers are not that easy to approach and are several miles apart.Some can be reached by a four wheel drive truck others only by Mt Bike or ATV's.This is a beautiful remote area and rarely if ever will see other climbers. Getting ThereThere are several entrances into the area,one famous ATV trail that can be used to approach Golden Gate ,Joe and his Dog ,and Twin Priest Tower is THe Devils Race Track and its various branch trails. One can exit from I.70 at 131 exit and drive on the south side of the highway for about 6 miles to an underpass back onto the north side. The easiest ATV route to the Twin Priest and Golden Gate is from the town of Farron that can be reached from I,70 Exit 116 to Moore or via Rt 10 from Price.
