BETA PHOTO: Annakenna Tower

Description

Start at a handcrack in the notch between the tower and the wall behind it. Free climb nice handcracks and slabs to a 4 bolt ladder, and then some spooky free moves on sandy rock to the summit.

Location

Annakenna Tower is a small detached tower just east of Secret Pillar described in Desert Rock 2. Park at the campsite for Worth the View Spire, but walk up towards the very impressive looking tower(Secret Pillar) on the same side of the road as the campsite. Annakenna Tower is the smaller tower just beyond Secret Pillar.

Protection

Cams from red alien to 3.5 or 4 camalot. 1 rivet hanger and a few quickdraws.

Annakenna Tower. Annakenna is a beach in Easter Island with some of the famous stone statues(Moai). The Moai at Annakenna are unique in that they have hats made of bright red rock. The summit block on this tower reminded me of those statues.

Really fun route! I think it is on the verge of becoming three stars as it starts to clean up, fun climbing leads to the top of another tower. Cool summit.

I climbed this tower on 3/17/07. Good route, but a bit of loose rock to contend with still. The climbing is not bad to do french free instead of aiding at about 5.8 C0.
