Description 

The Crooked Old Man of the Swell 5.9-AO. A mini tower with a big approach. P1)Start on the East side. Up a groove to a bolt then left to the south face. Straight up steep rock to the summit.Good Protection.Will go all free . A free attempt was not made due to approaching thunder storm. Cam and sling was used for aid.Rap from drilled pitons over the overhanging end of the tower.


Location 

This mini tower can be seen high up on the Nortern skyline from the Rest area on I.70 about a mile past the Black Dragon Road entrance. This Rest area is on the North side of the Eastern Reef Slabs.One can walk from the Rest area N/E to the first prominent canyon then follow the rim of the canyon through a saddle to a valley .The Old Man will come into veiw.To Park off I.70 From the Hanksville exit heading West go 2.5 miles to mile marker 147. Go through the wire gate and drive .6 of a mile to left turn,.2 miles to park and good camp site.From here walk SW to the a canyon overlooking the Rest area on I.70 . Follow the rim on the south side of the canyon as for the Rest area approach.
