BETA PHOTO: White Knight

Description

This is the tower located just off I-70 and looks like the knight (horse) chess piece if you are driving on the eastbound side of the road. The rock is your usual desert tower affair, with chossy rock that can seem more like mud than rock at times. While it is not a destination, its' easy access and close approach broke up the drive nicely for us going from Boulder to Red Rocks. There are two trad routes that are a little on the hairy side, and one aid route

Getting There

Heading down I-70, pull off to the north near mile marker 120 (there's a median cross-over that leads right into the road if coming from the West). There is a road with a gate and sign saying "authorized personnel only" on it, which leads to a highway maintenance building. Hike the road, staying left when the road splits and you'll reach the base of the White Knight within a mile from the highway.

Bjornstad's book says the road leading to the White Knight is near mile marker 118, but the mile marker we saw just before the gate was 120. Either way, there's only one road with a cattle gaurd and a sign saying "authorized personnel only" anywhere near those mile markers
