In this shot you might notice that I clove-hitched each piece as I was rope-soloing. In retrospect, this is NOT a good system, as any fall would put a large amount of force on a short length of rope [fall factor = force of fall / length of rope out]. This was my first roped-solo and fortunately I did not fall. A better system I'm told would be to rig a heavy pack (or screamer) to the bottom anchor, thus creating somewhat of a dynamic belay to absorb some of the impact in the event of a lead fall. Thanks for the heads up from the guys over at Black Diamond. Please learn from my mistake and be careful out there!
