The BLM office in Monticello has asked the Friends of Indian Creek to remind climbers that there is a 14-day limit on camping on BLM Land. The F.O.I.C. understands that there is a bit of a history of staying in the Creek for far longer, but heavy climber-traffic in the area has made the BLM take notice of this tradition. Be aware that overstaying the 14-day limit makes climbers look as if we feel the rules don't apply to us and thus has an effect on long-term access. Moving your campsite throughout the season, or perhaps finding a site outside the main Indian Creek area, will not only help smooth relations with the BLM, but will also keep you from possibly getting hit with a fine.
BETA PHOTO: Forgotten Tower, as seen from the Supercrack Buttr...
Description
The Forgotten tower is the prominent buttress on top the mesa to the left if you drive from south past the supercrack buttress. It is Navajo sandstone and about 100m high from the mesa. There are still some possibilies for FA, the obvious dihedrals along the visible pillars.
Getting There
Park at the Blue Gramma parking. Cross the creek where once was some kind of dam. Walk about 150m westwards, then scramble up northwards to a gully and upwards to the mesa. Walk another 800m northwest to the tower; approach may take around 45min.
I've always been curious if anybody had ever climbed this before. I'd heard it had been done, but people make shit up out of the blue all the time. Any sign of previous passage?
i had heard that it had been climbed also, but don't have details (or even remember who it was that told me it had been climbed). good question. that dihedral of sorts, to the top of a tower of sorts, would have been inviting back in the day.
