Description

This is the first and most prominent tower you encounter as you walk down the Hammond Canyon Trail from Little Notch. If this tower has been named by the first ascensionists, please let me know and we'll revise accordingly.

Getting There

Walk down the eroding but easily followed trail from the Little Notch trailhead for about 45 minutes. About the time you hit the canyon floor, you will find this tower. Pick a quick 3 minute bushwack to get to the base.

Featured Route For Upper Hammond Spire

Unknown 5.11 PG13  UT : Moab Area : ... : Upper Hammond Spire
Traverse a few feet left (west) to where it's possible to set up a belay using small cams in a pocket. (Your belayer will be above a blank slab, so a fall would take you both for a ride, without the anchor). Climb the sandy slab, with a cruxy section above the pin to a ledge. Traverse this 30ish feet left to another drilled pin and go up a challenging vertical seam (5.11) to another ledge. Protect your second in a nice crack and traverse all the way left around to the other side of the tower. ...[more]   Browse More Classics in UT
