Rappel Anchor. Two 60s will get you down.

Lots of private land.

Unaweep Canyon is better known for its rock climbing. There are a few ice climbs here located on the west side of the canyon. The climbs are visible from the road, but due to private land, deadfall, minimal use, and scrub oak, the approaches can be difficult.

Getting There

Unaweep Canyon is accessed by driving south out of Grand Junction on US Highway 50. In the town of Whitewater, turn south onto CO Highway 141. The climbs start appearing approximately 12 miles in. Potential for ice climbs for the next 25 miles. Until about 5 miles from Gateway.

Quarry Pillar WI6  CO : CO Ice & Mixed : Unaweep Canyon
This is one hard pitch of ice! Overhanging for 50 feet. Extremely overhanging for the first 25 feet. Very thin line at the bottom. Very difficult crampon purchase. Very sustained. I've been told it does not come in every year and also told this was fatter than normal. Incredible line!...[more]   Browse More Classics in CO
