Ok, so I know the new sizes (grey and gold) aren't that new but I just picked them up a month ago. The difference between these pieces and the sizes they fall between is VERY subtle. I think if I were to do this again I would just double up on the red and orange. Having the extra colors on my rack adds some confusion with out any benefit as I can't ever see having, say, the grey fitting where the red wouldn't.

Just posting this in case someone was thinking about buying these "in between" pieces and also curious of other people's opinion on it.

i disagree: i've found the gray and gold to be very helpful. the gold one, in particular, fills a true gap between the red and orange (until the gold one came out, i carried a red metolius tcu to fill the gap).

Personally, I like them both and have used the grey, in particular, a lot in the past. I can be super picky on placements though (not saying you're not) and like to have *exactly* the right size. To each their own.

Thanks for the input guys! I admittedly haven't used them enough to be dead set one way or another. I'm sure as with all my gear it will be something I get used to and am happy to have... Mostly I just wanted to post something because I'm "working" instead of climbing and it is killing me.

true. i guess my Friends cover those gaps.
but now that i think of it, i dont even own normal aliens. just the hybrid aliens. which fit better imo.

Besides filling in a gap, the Grey that I place often adds one more piece in a range of crack that I love to climb. I'd say better a grey and yellow than double yellows.
